FAQ

Common questions about install, data, and the dashboard.

What is BrekkyMetrics (and what is it not)?

BrekkyMetrics is hosted live product analytics: visitors in the last five minutes, sessions, custom events (on Free), referrals, and team access. Web snippet plus mobile/native SDKs, same event names. It is not Google Analytics, not an ad network, not a CMP, not session replay or heatmaps, and not self-hosted. It is smaller and live-first, not a warehouse or notebook suite.

What is the difference between Sessions and Visitors?

Sessions are individual visits. Visitors groups those visits by person. After identify() with the same user id on web and mobile, that account is one visitor with a session per device. Open Sessions for a single visit timeline. Open Visitors to see every time someone came back, including across apps, and drill into any session from there.

How do I track someone leaving the app and continuing on the website?

Call Brekky.handoffUrl() on the source (usually mobile) before you open the other app. The web snippet reads ?bk_h= on load. Sessions stay separate. The visit timeline shows Continued on… or Opened from… when both sides land. Do not put a user id in the URL.

How do funnels work in Brekky?

A funnel is an ordered list of checkpoints (events or page views) on Starter and up. You set how long they have to finish and define entry and goal steps in the Funnels wizard. Reports count each identified person once across apps, so a native step can convert on the website after identify().

How does revenue tracking work?

Send checkout_completed or purchase from your server when payment clears, with amount (number) and currency (e.g. USD) in the event properties. Stats shows a Sales total for the date range. Sessions shows Paid USD 49 on each payment in the timeline. Funnels sums amounts on the goal step for people who completed the path. You do not enter dollar values in the funnel builder; amounts come from your tracking code or webhook.

How do setup guides in Events work?

Setup guides walk you through multi-step flows like signup or checkout. Each step has a snippet for your platform, optional fields (button name, plan, amount), and a listener that confirms the event arrived. Purchase guides include a server webhook tab for checkout_completed.

Should checkout_completed fire from the browser?

No. Fire checkout_completed from your server when payment clears (Stripe webhook, etc.). Client-side pay buttons can fire checkout_started. The Events wizard includes a server snippet for the purchase guide.

Why does Events prompt me to connect visits to accounts?

If you have page views or app opens but no identify events, Brekky cannot tie anonymous traffic to logged-in users. Call identify right after login or signup with your database user id. Call reset on logout.

Why don't I see any events?

Confirm the write key in your snippet matches the app selected in the dashboard. Load the page in a window without ad blockers. Check the browser network tab for POST requests to the ingest endpoint.

Can I use one write key on web and mobile?

Each app (web, iOS, Android) has its own write key. Create separate apps in the same project if you want platform-specific stats. A single key works technically, but mixes data in one app bucket.

Does Brekky work with SPAs?

Yes. brekky.js hooks history.pushState, replaceState, and hash changes to send page_view on client-side navigation.

What counts as a bounce?

A session with a single page view (or single screen engagement on mobile) counts toward bounce rate in Stats. Return rate measures visitors who came back within the selected range.

Can viewers install tracking?

No. Viewers have read-only dashboard access. Members, admins, and owners can see the snippet in Settings → Tracking.

Is the tracker GDPR-friendly?

Brekky uses first-party cookies/local storage for visitor and session IDs. You are responsible for consent banners and privacy policy copy on your site. We do not sell visitor data.

Where is data stored?

Events are stored in Supabase (Postgres) for your project. Live updates use Supabase Realtime.

Stripe / billing?

Paid plans bill through Stripe. Free is $0 with no card. Starter is $9/mo. Growth is $29/mo. Current prices are on brekkymetrics.com/pricing.

Can an AI agent read my analytics?

Yes. Create a personal MCP token under Account → MCP and connect Cursor or Claude to https://mcp.brekkymetrics.com/mcp. The agent can read projects, sessions, events, and funnels you already have access to, and can create projects or apps. It cannot ingest, edit, or delete events. Revoke the token to cut access.
